In April 2012, Balti Gaas contacted an internationally recognized oceanographer and academician Tarmo Soomere and asked him to select the best location for the planned LNG terminal taking into account all possible places in Estonia.
Mr Soomere declares that „the best location for such a terminal is as far as possible from inhabited areas, other industrial enterprises, major highways, large vessels, storage areas, etc. In this respect, the location of a planned terminal at the Pakrineeme location would be one of the best sites /…/ it is important to avoid crossing of the sailing line of LNG tankers and the location of major gas pipelines on the seabed.
Oceanogropher also found that the gas pipeline should not cross the busy sailing line between Helsinki and Tallinn.
